About AMRES
Public information-communication institution “Akademska mreža Republike Srbije - AMRES” (Eng. Academic Network of the Republic of Serbia - AMRES) was founded by the Government of the Republic of Serbia for purpose of building, development and management of education and scientific-research computer network of the Republic of Serbia. To education and research organisations and other users, this network provides access and use of the Internet and information services nationally, as well as connection with other national and international networks. AMRES is one of the most significant resources of scientific-research and education work and is the leader in the development of information society.
Chronological Development of AMRES started in 1990s with academic networking of several major faculties, which resulted in creation of state-of-the art computer network in Serbia, which currently has more than 300 connected scientific-research and education institutions with over 150,000 end users.
AMRES infrastructure includes scientific-research and education computer network of the Republic of Serbia in functional and technical terms, external connections that connect it with the environment (Internet, GÉANT, other providers, etc.) and server-computer infrastructure. Institutions which are AMRES users are dominantly connected to AMRES network with optical connections with the capacity of 1Gb. The backbone of AMRES network is made with optical connections with the capacity of 1Gb and 10Gb which connect 50 Serbian cities. Through connection to European scientific-research and education network GÉANT, AMRES provides two Internet links – primary one with the capacity of 10Gb and secondary one with the capacity of 1Gb.
In addition to connection to AMRES infrastructure, AMRES also offers numerous IT services to its users which are intended for scientific-research community, such as the service of enabling cooperation, free wireless access at numerous locations in Serbia, etc. You can find more about the services offered by AMRES within Services for Institutions and Services for end users.
